Punctuality
At New Bewerley, as well as being at school everyday, we also have high expectations for children to be on time for school. Every lesson counts, and being on time for school improves life chances as well as having a positive effect on social skills and academic achievement.
Why is being on time important?
Every minute counts. If you arrive late to school every day your learning begins to suffer. It all adds up, being just 15 minutes late to school every day across the academic year is the equivalent of losing 10 days in the classroom!
Which codes are used on the register?
L Code - This code means that you were late to school.
U Code - This code means that you were late to school after the registers have closed. The code "U" is typically used when a pupil arrives more than 30 minutes after the designated registration time. It is also an unauthorised absence. If your child has 10 unauthorised sessions within 10 weeks, it can lead to fines or legal proceedings.

How is punctuality monitored at NBCS?
Punctuality is regularly monitored by the Attendance Team, and we wish to work collaboratively with parents to help improve punctuality where it is an issue.
Parents will receive a phone call from the Attendance Team or a letter describing the effects being late for school is having on their child. Parents may be invited in for a meeting to discuss punctuality and how we can work together to improve this.
