Year 5
Children in Year 5 are in Upper Key Stage 2 - the final part of their journey through Primary School. We continue to develop key skills and learn about new and exciting topics such as the Victorians and Ancient Greeks.
5 Hepworth and 5 Johanesson
In 5 Hepworth, our class teacher is Miss Hunter and in 5 Johanesson, our class teacher is Mrs Shaw. We also work with Mrs Bousfield and we are supported in our learning by various members of the UKS2 team.
Hepworth class is named after Barbara Hepworth, who was a famous artist and was born and studied in West Yorkshire before moving to St Ives in Cornwall during World War II. Hepworth was inspired by modernist art from across Europe and was most famous for her sculptures, big and small, which were often inspired by nature, had interesting holes in them and were placed outside in a variety of settings.
Johanneson class is named after Albert Johanneson, a pioneering footballer who played for Leeds United during the 1960s and became one of the first Black players to achieve national recognition in English football. In 1965, he made history as the first person of African heritage to play in an FA Cup Final at Wembley. Remembered for his talent, determination and courage, he is an important figure in the history of Leeds and in football history.
