Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 is an exciting stage in Upper Key Stage 2, where children continue to develop the knowledge, skills and independence needed for the final part of their primary school journey. We encourage our pupils to become confident, ambitious learners who are ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities.

5 Hepworth
Our class is named after Barbara Hepworth, one of Britain's most influential artists and sculptors. Born and educated in Yorkshire, she became renowned for her creative and innovative sculptures inspired by nature, landscapes and the world around her. Her imagination and creativity inspire us to think differently, express our ideas and approach learning with curiosity.
Our teacher is Miss Hunter and we also work closely with Mrs Bousfield, alongside other members of the Upper Key Stage 2 team.
Together, we create a nurturing and supportive learning environment where children are encouraged to be independent, resilient and motivated learners. We help every child develop the confidence to challenge themselves, celebrate success and learn from mistakes.
Through our Growth Mindset approach, we encourage pupils to embrace challenges, persevere when learning becomes difficult and take pride in their achievements.

5 Johanneson
Our class is named after Albert Johanneson, a pioneering footballer who played for Leeds United during the 1960s and became one of the first Black footballers to achieve national recognition in English football. His talent, determination and courage continue to inspire future generations both on and off the field.
Our teacher is Mrs Shaw and we also work closely with Mrs Bousfield, alongside other members of the Upper Key Stage 2 team.
Together, we support children to become confident, responsible and ambitious learners who are ready to take ownership of their learning. We encourage children to work collaboratively, contribute positively to school life and always strive to achieve their best.
We are proud to develop our Growth Mindset, helping children to recognise that effort, determination and a positive attitude support success both in school and beyond.
